Law Laboratory Conducting Interactive Discussion with Judge from Netherlands

Netherlands become one of the favorite destinations for comparative study among Indonesian judges. At the Tulip State, Indonesian judges generally meet with Netherlands judges to exchange knowledge and practical experience. At the end of 2014, Law Laboratory of Unsoed presenting judge from Amsterdam – Tjepco Van Voorst Vader – to provide insight into the broader legal view and share his career as a judge in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Interactive Discussio located in Room Video Conference at Justitia Building I of the Law Faculty UNSOED on Friday ( 5/12 ). Chief organizer, Prof. Tri Lisiani Prihatinah , SH , MA , Ph.D., said that we need to bring more information about the practices that take place in other countries for the academic personnel and also for students in today’s global era. This event was attended also by the Chairman of the International Law Department -Prof. Dr Ade Maman Suherman , SH , M.Sc.-, Lecturers and students from various Student Activity Units .

Mr. Tjepco, an alumni of Utrecht University, which is one of the oldest and largest university in the Netherlands and it was founded in 1636. Utrecht University was also ranked 11th best in Europe and the 50th best in the world according to the Shanghai Research Academic Rankings of World Universities 2010. In his presentation Mr. Tjepco revealed that to be selected as a judge in Netherlands there are two channels, namely through professional experience and career. A person can be turned into judge if he/she meets several requirements such as passing practical testing and having  recommendation from senior professionals .

After his speech, moderator and chairman of Law Laboratory Prof. Tri Lisiani Prihatinah, SH , MA , Ph.D., gave an opportunities to participants to ask questions and give comments on the presentation. The participants were very enthusiastic to ask questions and response to the material presented by the speaker. To finish the discussion, Mr. Tjepco conved the message that to be a good lawyer, students should have “hard work, good preparation and become a trusted person”. To do so, students must also cultivate their ability of legal practice throughout their study period .
